SATIRE ON RISING PRICES BY JASPAL BHATTI

Winning Vegetables by Ring-Throwing-Game; Punjab Governor Tries his Luck too

Could you imagine the Governor of Punjab, Dr.General S.F. Rodrigues and his wife Mrs Jean Rodrigues throwing rings on vegetable and packs of pulses to win them home? Yes, it happened at a weird stall set by Jaspal Bhatti and his students of Madarts, Film School.

In order to highlight the plight of the common man for whom the costly vegetables, pulses and Ghee have become a distant dream, Jaspal Bhatti, today, set up a unique stall at Chandigarh Carnival displaying vegetables and pulses and inviting onlookers to try their luck. They were also checking the Filmi-Madness by testing their film related talents and giving away certificates of minimum madness and 200 grams of vegetables and pulses to the winners.

Jaspal Bhatti in his tongue in cheek speech thanked the Government and its wrong policies for taking the inflation to new wonderful heights. Followings are the main points his hilarious speech making fun of the inflation.

  1. Tomatoes are no more a thing to be eaten but a thing to be shown off. If the inflation as such is causing enough sourness, then what is the fun of adding 60-rupee-Kg-tomatoes to make your curry sourer?

  2. We also thank the Government on behalf of the Diabetic Patients Association to make sugar out of the reach of the common man. We, the diabetic patients in fact don't want to see other people having sugar in front of us.

  3. Don't call your wife or girl friend by names such as sweet-heart, sugar or, honey. If it comes to the notice of the Government, it could impose tax on such sweet talks too.

  4. Try to use pure grease or diesel instead ghee. Because buying ghee at 250 a Kg can cause you a heart attack any time.

  5. We request banks and other financial institutions grant loans on cheaper rates to common honest man to buy vegetables and ration.

  6. Income tax people should keep a strict vigil on those who are still found shopping around in vegetable markets. The tax department might stumble on big money.

  7. Instead selling your gold and then bringing home ghee, instead of selling your property to run kitchen, it is wise to eat grass and dwell on the old good memories when you could afford vegetables. Jaspal Bhatti concluded his speech by reciting a couplet:

Yaad Karo un beete dino ki

Ghar mein sabzi aayee thee

Paranthe pe ghee lagaya tha

Daal bhi hamne khayee thee

Earlier once when vegetable prices soared, Jaspal Bhatti bought his wife Savita ornaments made from vegetables and walked her about in the market place to make other women jealous of her.

Apart from the students of Mad Arts, theatre and TV artists Vinod Sharma, Lally Gill, Gurtej Tej sang a film parody:

Hi hi yeh mehngai

yeh kaddu aur yeh bhindi

yeh mattar aur yeh tindi

koi laakh khiradna chahe, teri do takyan di naukri, wich sabzi na puri aye

Savita Bhatti
